Zagreb (CRO) - 25.02.2002.
After A Victorious Battle, The Empress
And Her Army Come Back To Zagreb
Yesterday,
on 25th February 2002, Croatia and Zagreb appropriately welcomed their Olympic
team, and before all, Janica. With love almost equal, Ivica, Nika, Ana, and
the whole Olympic team were welcomed. After a 'crazy' flight over Zagreb and
Sljeme, the welcome at the airport, and an immeasurable line of people along
the road from Velika Gorica to the center of Zagreb, our Olypmic ski team and
Janica were welcomed by more than 150,000 people on the Ban Jelačić square,
as Ivica said, like Caesar coming back to Rome with a triumphant army.
In a best possible way, spontaneously and with a lot of love, warmth and admiration,
the people of Zagreb organized an unforgettable welcome. A true, civilized and
European one, like it becomes Zagreb! From the protocol part - brief addresses
by state, city, church and sport officials - to the spectacular performance
by folklore, rock, pop, techno and other bands, it was all something to remember.
The culmination
was when Ivica grabbed a guitar and showed his playing skill, accompanied by
the Telephone Blues Band, led by Ivica's best music friend Janko Milinarić Trooly.
'Johnny Be Good' and 'Honky Tonk Woman' (dedicated to Janica) set everyone present
on fire, and made the parents Ante and Marica, and the entire team, dance. It
was a nice and spontaneous, genuine joy by everyone on the stage. Finally, they
deserved to relax and have some good time in front of their fellow citizens.
After more than an hour of 'hopping', Janica and the team got off the stage
and went to Gradski Podrum for a snack, where Janica, after all the fatigue
and excitement, went a little dizzy. Everything went all right, however, when
she, with the help of her family, doctors and security, came home and relaxed
from the unforgettable welcome.
We all shall always remember the day when Janica brought four Olympic medals
to Croatia. Let it be a goal for every Croatian sportsperson. Every Croatian
citizen is proud of Janica and identifies with her. Janica, thank you!
