Janica Successfully Underwent Surgery
Janica Kosteliæ had successful menisecetomy of the left knee
at The Bruderholz Hospital in Basel (Switzerland). The surgery lasted 46 minutes,
and it was performed by surgeons who carried out the menisecetomy of her right
knee 15 months ago. But, unlike the operation from more than year ago when the
surgeons required 5 hours and 13 minutes for a complete reconstruction of the
right knee, this time much easier surgery was at stake.
Details of the surgery were released by dr. Vlasta Brozicevic,
manageress of Terme Selce, who herself was an observer at the operation site:
- Janica was operated by dr. Heinz Widmer, and prof. dr. Werner Mueller and
dr. Niklaus Friederich were also present. The physicians pin pointed during
the operation changes in middle part of lateral meniscus, in its inner edge
which was sporadically disjointed and sporadically it looked alike small fractures.Judging
after appearance of the injury, physcians concluded it was an old damage, to
which they cut edges and put it in order. They also discovered a slight subsidence
of cartilage as well as slight subsidence in upper surface of a middle part
of medial meniscus which they have brought into alignment only. There were no
haematoma and the ligaments were in one piece and in excellent condition.
Janica has been discharged from The Bruderholz Hospital already
on 16 March, but one day later she returned to Zagreb, and three following weeks
she is to spent at rehabilitation in Terme Selce. Her come-back to the snow
world is expected around 8 April, and Janica would likely go for sport preparations
to Innerkrems.
On the occassion, The Bruderholz Hospital physicians examined
also Janica's right knee.
- The knee is o.k. The physicians pointed out how pleased
they were as they could not anticipate such a good result in regard with Janica's
operation and rehabilitation - said dr. Brozicevic.
