» The skiers are moving to St. Moritz
From 2nd to 16th February, most of the skiers will be on their way to St. Moritz, Switzerland, to participate in the World Championship. Croatia will be represented by four skiers who were also competing in the World Cup: Janica and Ivica Kostelic, Nika Fleiss and Ana Jelusic.

» Dorfmeister won her 1st gold, Janica finished 19th
The 2nd day of the World Championship started with a women's Super-G race won by Austria's Michaela Dorfmeister and it was her 1st gold medal, while Janica Kostelic finished 19th.

Janica Kostelic was one of many favorites who had a hard time to reach her potential in the women’s Super-G set on the demanding Engiadina course.
While Austria’s Michaela Dorfmeister, who only reached one podium this season in the specialty, clinched her second gold medal in a speed event, leaders as France’s Carole Montillet, Austria’s Renate Goetschl or Italy’s Karen Putzer finished way behind the podium in that first women’s race of the World Championships. The wind certainly influenced the issue of this competition!

» Janica very far behind on slalom training
After finishing 19th in a Super-G race, Janica's next challenge will be a combined race scheduled for Monday. Until then she is spending her time with training. She has finished 33rd, with 3.80 seconds behind the winner, Spain's Ruiz-Castillo, on a Tuesday's training race. The snow was thick, and Janica's bed knee has additionally decreased her speed.

» Janica Kostelic took it easy
Janica Kostelic achieved another controlled run during the second training run on the women’s downhill course. She clocked the 35th best time, over three second behind the fastest, Switzerland’s Monika Dumermuth.
» Janica trains giant slalom
After two days of training downhill, Janica Kostelic participated in a giant slalom training on Thursday in St. Moritz. She went to Zuoz, 15 km away from St. Moritz, and skied down the giant slalom course a few times.

» Janica 7th in downhill training
Janica Kostelic was brilliant in the last downhill training of the World Championship in St. Moritz. Young Croatian skier was 7th with timing of 1:36.74, only 47 seconds behind the winner, Germany's Hilde Gerg.

» Finally a day of
After a week of training, Janica Kostelic finally had a day of in St. Moritz. A day after a great downhill training where she was 7th, Janica spent her day watching bob races in the near by course.
» Janica Kostelic smiles again
Janica Kostelic had a nice smile on her face as she left the finish area after the last downhill training run on Friday which took place by nice weather conditions. The triple Olympic Champion clocked a promising 7th place in that trial in which she only lost half a second on Germany’s Hilde Gerg. She finished just behind Austria’s Christine Sponring, the silver medal winner in combined at St Anton. Germany’s Martina Ertl, the defending combined champion from 2001 didn’t take part in this last timed practice run to train some giant slalom.

The 19th place in the Super-G is already history as well as her debut in the World Championship. Janica Kostelic is now prepared for the medals.

» Janica Kostelic fights for another gold medal in the combined
Janica Kostelic remains a strong favorite for the combined world title after the downhill part in which she clocked the 12th fastest time, 67/100 behind the leader, Janette Hargin from Sweden. Another Swede, Jessica Lindell-Vikarby, 4th in the downhill in Lenzerheide, was 2nd ahead of Nicole Hosp, one of most promising talent of the Austrian team. None of the two Scandinavian racers ever scored good results in slalom on the World Cup tour.
» Janica moved up in intermediate combined rankings
Despite her pain at her right knee, Janica Kostelic achieved a clean first slalom run which allowed her to move-up in the combined standings before the last run.
» Janica Kostelic did it!
Two years after clinching her first overall World Cup title and twelve months after her Olympics triumphs in Salt Lake City, Janica Kostelic reached another summit in her career in capturing her first gold medal at World Championships. Despite strong pain at her right knee, the Croatian “wondergirl” fought hard to beat by 6/100 of a second Austria’s Nicole Hosp and by 2,20 seconds Switzerland’s Marlies Oester.
Another Austrian, Marlies Schild, was 4th, only 2/100 away from bronze while Martina Ertl, the defending combined champion was a far 6th. Only 21 skiers finished the competitions raced by perfect weather conditions.

The home of the Kostelic family must be crowded with awards and from 10th February 2003, Janica is the proud owner of the World Championship gold medal!

» Janica went to training despite her knee
Janica Kostelic was training giant slalom on Tuesday morning despite feeling strong pain in her right knee and she even did 4 rounds.
Wednesday, 12. February, 2003.
» Janica in the giant slalom
Janica has finally decided whether she will participate in the Thursday’s giant slalom or not. Despite feeling strong pain in her right knee, Janica went to giant slalom training and afterwards announced that she will race! She will be starting with the number 6.

» More pain for Janica Kostelic
Janica Kostelic showed again great courage during her giant slalom race which she ended in 13th position, three seconds behind Sweden’s Anja Paerson, who wins her second gold medal since 2001.

Despite feeling strong pain in her right knee, Janica Kostelic participated in the World Championship giant slalom race in St Moritz. She finished 13th, 3.07 seconds behind the winner Anja Paerson. Janica was 11th after the 1st run.

» Janica is ready for the 2nd medal
Janica Kostelic is starting with the number 7 in tomorrow's slalom race and will be aiming for the 2nd medal. Although not in perfect shape, Janica is always the main favorite in slalom.

Saturday’s women’s slalom should be one of the most dramatic of the past years. Two of the greatest stars of the women’s tour will be fighting for another triumph here. On one side, the Olympic Champion and two-time World Cup winner Janica Kostelic and on the other the tough Swede Anja Paerson, always charging as soon as the clock begins to tick!

» Janica Kostelic close to second gold
Despite strong pain at her right hand injured during the last giant slalom, Janica Kostelic clocked the fastest time in the first slalom run held by beautiful weather conditions this morning. The new combined World Champion beat by 0.40 second Austria’s talented Marlies Schild and by 0.45 second Nicole Hosp, the silver medallist in the combined last week.

Janica Kostelic won her 2nd gold medal in the World Championship in St. Moritz! We all knew that slalom was her discipline but we were in doubt because of her health condition. But, it seems that she is unstoppable...

» Janica will ski until the end of the season
Janica Kostelic was in the Neuron policlinics in Salata on Tuesday, where doctors performed the magnetic resonance of her right knee. Janica has injured her meniscus, but since it's not harmful, she will be operated at the end of the season. That means that the two-time world champion will race until the end!

» Janica and Ivica in Innerkrems
Three-times ski champions, Janica and Ivica arrived in Innerkrems on Friday where they will train until the next World Cup competitions. Right after their arrival, the Kostelics raced in the giant slalom and slalom and they will continue with this schedule until Sunday. At lest Ivica will, since he’ll, after returning to Zagreb, embark on a long journey to South Korea. In Yongpyong, Ivica will compete in the World Cup races that will countinue in Shiga Kogen, Japan.

» Janica went downhill training
Janica Kostelic is in Innsbruck where she will compete in three World Cup speed events. She was training downhill on Wednesday and she was very good in the upper part of the course with a little delay, but she was more carefull in the lower part.

» Janica 2nd in downhill training
Only a day before her 1st World Cup race, Janica Kostelic raced in the 2nd official training and finished 2nd. She was only 12/100 seconds behind the winner, Germany’s Haeusl.
Friday, 28. February, 2003.
» Janica finished 15th but kept her position in standings
Janica Kostelic finished 15th in the giant slalom race with 1.11 seconds behind the winner, Renate Goetschl. Janica’s timing was 1:27.29 minutes and she was great in the upper part of the course, but she almost fell in a curve in the 2nd part which slowed her down.
» Janica back on (fast) tracks
Janica Kostelic was close the reach another strong top-10 finish in a Super-G in Innsbruck. The double World Champion from St Moritz ended in 15th position in the first of two Super-G races won by her good friend Renate Goetschl ahead of France’s Carole Montillet.
