Soelden (AUT), 24.10.2006. FIS World Cup Opening in Sölden cancelled Both of the giant slalom races planned for next weekend's 2006/07 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup opening in Sölden (AUT) have today been cancelled.
The reason is warm weather (9º C on 3249 meters above sea level) and strong rain that fell in the night from Monday to Tuesday.
Both of the giant slaloms are probably not to be caught up on during the season, because in FIS one official today said that «there is a general policy not to catch up on the glacier planned races».
2006/07 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup should so start on November 11th and 12th, 2006, with two slalom races (one in Ladies', one in Men's competiton) in Levi (FIN).
