First podium finish for Janica Kosteli in Lienz
Janica Kosteli reached her very first podium in Austria's Lienz in one of the most demanding slalom races on the women's circuit. The skier from Zagreb came in 3rd in the last race of the year won by Austria's Marlies Schild ahead of Nicole Hosp. Nika Fleiss and Ana Jelusic also skied among the best 20. Anja Paerson, unbeaten in slalom this season, fell in the middle of her first run.

Thanks to two consistent runs, Janica managed to capture her third consecutive podium in slalom which propelled her at the lead in the Overall and Slalom World Cup standings. It's a superb satisfaction for the triple Olympic champion who is now aiming for a strong performance at Sljeme in a week.
Her success is remarkable because she didn't feel so well in the morning when she awoke. She was wondering if it would make sense for her to compete in the slalom. Her staff asked her to try it and in fact Janica felt a little better at the start of the race.
After her first run, she went to the hospital to receive a treatment which allowed her to return to the slope in the afternoon.
"In the fist run, the hands and the legs were not mine," she explained afterwards. "The second run was much better because I went to the hospital to get a glucose supply which helped me a lot. I did the same two years ago at Maribor where I came in 2nd in the slalom afterwards."
"Today's slalom was demanding, I like such kinds of long runs, both were very nice to ski. I wanted to be finally on the podium here. To be in the lead in those World Cup standings is fantastic after what happened this morning!"
"It is wonderful to go to Zagreb with the red leader bib in slalom, I feel dizzy just thinking about the crowd and the excitement there."
Last year Janica straddled a gate in the beginning of the first run and skied out in tears. She wants to offer a better result this year to her fans.
