Janica Kostelic at Lienz
Janica Kostelic, wearing the red leader bib after celebrating her first win in the discipline last week in Splindleruv Mlyn, scored another promising performance in today’s giant slalom race held by difficult weather conditions in Lienz, Austria.

The skier from Zagreb, who never ended here among the top-3, was a solid 6th after two consistent runs, only 95/100 of a second behind the winner, Anja Paerson. She was only 55/100 far from the podium.

Janica is now 2nd in the Overall World Cup standings – only 8 points behind Paerson who won her third race of the season. The great battle between the two main stars from last winter is starting over. It could well last once more until March!

“I’m satisfied with this result because I could defend my position from the first run,” the Croatian said afterwards. “The visibility was not so good, especially in the second run because of the snowfall, but the course was very well prepared. They were a few bumps and I couldn’t ski so well in the first run. I didn’t fight hard enough - in the second run it was the same.”

Janica added that she was feeling in good shape and that she was happy to face no health problems. On Thursday, she will fight for her first slalom win this season and also her first podium finish in Lienz.
