5th place for Janica Kostelic
Janica Kostelic, 5th in today's Super-G raced on the Olympic course of the 2006 Winter Games, missed her first Super-G podium of the season by only 1/100 of a second. She tied with Germany's Hilde Gerg and finished 66/100 of a second behind the winner, Sweden's Anja Paerson who came ahead of Italy's Isolde Kostner.

Paerson, who won here her first World Cup Super-G three weeks after clinching gold in that speciality at Santa Caterina, reinforced her position in the Overall World Cup standings. She leads it now with an advance of 63 points on Janica Kostelic, while Michaela Dorfmeister is 3rd at 145 points.

Renate Goetschl, a far 7th in that race, lost the lead in the Super-G standings to Dorfmeister. She is only 5th in the Overall standings.

Janica would be perfectly pleased with her result if she would not have lost a spot on the podium by only one hundredth of a second. "I often missed a better position by only a few hundredths this season, it's too bad, but I don't want to complain," she said. "This result is ok, I had a smooth run, nothing special, I didn't attack too much. It's nice to get another top-5 result in Super-G within a week, but I feel ready to reach a podium in that specialty too."

"Anja achieved a great run, this makes the fight for the Overall title very interesting. I'm enjoying to be part of it, it's fun. I'll do my best to challenge Anja and the other favourites until the last race. I'm having a good season so far. As I often said, I don't feel any pressure. My staff is much more nervous than I'm. A year ago, I was not thinking at all about ski racing and about being back at the top. After winning three gold medals at Santa Caterina, what ever happens now in the Overall World Cup is fine for me."

"It's already exciting to be in good shape, to fight for victories and have a great time. I'm looking forward for the downhill on Saturday. I feel very comfortable in downhill now and I had a strong run here in the first training day. So let's see what will happen!"

Two more races are planned on this slope this weekend, a downhill on Saturday and a new two-run World Cup combined on Sunday. Janica has a good chance to get closer to Anja Paerson with two solid race here.
