Another podium for Janica Kostelic
After two safe runs, Janica Kostelic reached another World Cup point in Altenmarkt's slalom won by Finland's Tanja Poutiainen who celebrated her third victory of the season in front of a modest crowd of two-three thousand spectators.

Janica came in 3rd, 65/100 of a second behind Tanja and 62/100 behind Austria's Marlies Schild. Yet she finished ahead of Anja Paerson, 4th with a delay of 41/100 on her. This strong performance helped her to reinforce her third place in the Overall World Cup standings lead by Poutiainen, who finished all fifth technical races of the season on the podium.

The triple Olympic Champion, who only lost 10/100 on Marlies Schild in the second run, was quite satisfied by her performance after failing to finish the last slalom in Aspen. In fact, the skier from Zagreb suffered from her stomach before the race and this may have prevented her to feel as comfortable as normal before her race.

"I'm absolutely pleased by this result and the entire weekend, I enjoyed scoring hundred points in two days and reaching this podium," said the Croatian after the race. "In the first run I skied the same way as in training. It's quite an easy course and Tanja has always been fast here. Everybody can do well here. My second run was fine too; I didn't attack all the time. Things are going really well for me so far. I only think race after race for the moment. My goal is to ski as well as possible in every run and to remain healthy."

"My season-start is excellent, even fantastic when you have in mind what I went through during the past year."

Janica, who is the only racer so far this season to have reached the top-10 in all events, will be driving at the middle of the week to Val d'Isère where the next World Cup competitions, two downhills, are scheduled on the men's OK course. Then she will move on to St Moritz where a Super-G and a giant slalom will take place before Christmas.

If she keeps the same pace in the next ten days, she has a good chance to take over the lead in the Overall World Cup since Poutiainen doesn't plan to compete in the coming speed events. But for the moment, she doesn't think about the Overall title and doesn't like to speak about it.

"The season is long and I don't know how I'll feel in January, I may be tired, so I wait till the end of the season to start to seriously think about it," she told the press last month in Aspen after her win.

Also among the top-10 her teammate Nika Fleiss, an excellent 9th. She has a good chance now to enter soon among the top-20 in the slalom start-list.
