Janica Kostelic 6th in Altenmarkt
Janica Kostelic came once more very close to her first Super-G World Cup podium of the new season - she finished a strong 6th in today's competition in Altenmarkt, only a few hundredths away from it. Two years ago, she crashed on the same course while fighting for her first Super-G victory.

Austria's veteran Alexandra Meissnitzer won her first race in Austria while Slovenia's Tina Maze reached a sensational 3rd place.

This result allows Janica to get closer to Finland's Tanja Poutiainen and Sweden's Anja Paerson, 8th today, in the Overall World Cup standings before Sunday's slalom. Paerson is now leading the Overall classification with a lead of two points over her Finish friend. Janica has a delay of twenty points on her.

Janica was pretty satisfied with her performance considering the course conditions. The snow was very hard and the run very demanding. The visibility not so good because the race took place in the shadow.

"I didn't ski the middle part so well, so I guess I have to be happy," Janica said afterwards. "I'm even a little surprised not to have lost more time because I did some mistakes in that middle part. But I think it was difficult for each of us. Meissnitzer achieved a great run. I was a good day for me at the end and I feel fine. Tomorrow's slalom should be interesting."

In fact, for the first time since Aspen, the three leaders of the World Cup standings will fight for victory in that last slalom prior to Christmas. Next weekend, two downhills are scheduled in Val d'Isère, France, followed by a Super-G and a giant slalom later on in the week in St Moritz.

Janica has a good chance to take over the lead in the Overall standings with another brilliant performance. But as usual, the Croatian skier doesn't think about this - she aims as usual to achieve a fair run and to have fun.
