Janica Kosteli - season preview
After she had missed last season because of her thyroid problem, as well as right knee injury and thyroid removal surgery on January 20, 2004 in Zagreb (CRO) by Dr. Miljenko Radeti and her last knee surgery (cartilage) on February 24, 2004 in Schruns (AUT) by Dr. Christian Schenk, she finished her rehabilitation in Terme Selce and Top Terme Topusko in Croatia and started with snow training on Hintertux (AUT) on May 13, 2004, where she trained until mid-June.

This was the easier training, which included a lot of free skiing and training on the short soft poles. After spending a short holiday in Portugal, she went to the island of Mljet in southern Croatia, the Kosteli family’s usual summer base, where she stayed all through the first half of July and the entire August doing physical training. The two last weeks in July and first two weeks of September she spent in Zermatt (SUI) training all the disciplines on the excellent snow conditions – and these were her first two “serious” trainings. Unfortunately she became ill (strong flu) at the end of her training in Zermatt and she lost 10 days of training in mid-September. Afterwards, she trained on Hintertux (AUT), at her usual training base. She also spent three days training at the end of last week on the World Cup course in Slden (AUT). Her final preparations for the first World Cup race in Slden were completed in Hintertux, where she intends to continue her training after the World Cup in Slden, until the beginning of November. Her plan is to go to the USA on November 11 and train in Lovlend, CO, as well as to compete in two FIS races in Breckenridge before the World Cup races in Aspen.

She is scheduled to compete in all the World Cup races in the season 2004/2005, with a possible exception of some DH and SG races owing to her knee situation, tiredness, travelling, training plan, etc.

She has visited dr. Hohmeister in Bad Ragaz (SUI) several times this year and he treated her knee similarly to what he had done with Sonja Nef’s knee.

She still is skiing with the pain in her knee, which is weaker on some days and stronger on the others, however, she has obtained full permissions from her knee doctors Dr. Miroslav Hapl, Dr. Christian Schenk and Dr. Rofl Hohmeister to train and to compete.

The most important is that she is very motivated to train and compete, and to come back to the level she was at before her last injuries and health problems.
Good luck Jenny!!!
