Croatian alpine ski team more numerous than ever
Following a very unlucky season 2003/2004 for the Croatian Alpine Ski Team, owing to the injuries of the siblings Kosteli, we are at the beginning of the new competition season 2004/2005 in which our main hopes are for both Janica and Ivica Kosteli to stay healthy and to come back to the levels they were at before the injuries.

If their health allows it, the goals are to win a medal at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Bormio 2005, as well as for Janica to fight again for the overall and slalom World Cup titles and for Ivica to fight again for Slalom World Cup title.

Beside Janica and Ivica, the goals of our two other competitors who have already scored World Cup points, Nika Fleiss and Ana Jelui, are to continue scoring the World Cup points and, especially for Nika, to move into the top 15 in slalom.

We were very successful at the two last FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships; our racers won two silver medals in slalom - Ana Jelui in Serre Chevaliere (FRA) in 2003 and Nika Fleiss in Maribor in 2004. The goal is to once again win a medal at the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships in Bardonecchia in 2005– this especially refers to Ana Jelui.

For the first time now we are planning to enter racers from our B (junior) team to the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Bormio 2005. There we will have up to 11 Croatian racers, of course if they meet the expected qualification criteria (top 200 for the ladies and top 350 for the men).

As regards the World Cup, we will slowly include two new names, the 17-year-old Matea Ferk from Rijeka and, for the first time, a second racer beside Ivica Kosteli on the men’s tour, the very talented 18-year-old junior Natko Zrni-Dim from Zagreb.

Of course we are, more than anything else, focused on the historic first World Cup race in Croatia, “Zlatni medvjed” ladies’ night slalom, which will take place on January 20, 2005 on top of the mountain Sljeme, above Zagreb, where we are planning to enter four of our skiers, as well as Ivica Kosteli as forerunner.

As this is the pre-Olympic season, we already have Torino 2006 in our minds. At the moment we have 9 racers with the fulfilled Olympic qualification criteria and 2 potential candidates, so that we will be sending the most numerous Croatian Olympic Team to the Olympic Winter Games ever.

We wish all the competitors a successful and especially healthy season 2004/2005!
