Croatian Olympic Comittee
Giant slalom, Hafjell (NOR), 16.03.2003.
The Crystal Globe is in Janica's hands
Although she wasn't her best in the last race of the season, Janica Kostelic was the absolute winner. She held the Crystal Globe in her hands and that award is only given to the best skiers. This year that is Janica, but we've already knew that from the beginning of the season.

She was more into the men's slalom race than in her own giant slalom. «I couldn't ski. I didn't have an inspiration. I felt so sad because Ivica didn't make it...» said Janica.

The Croatian skier finished 20th with 5.38 seconds behind the winner Karen Putzer. But, her wish for this season came true. She is still one of the top-3 skiers in giant slalom, she is among 10 best skiers in super-g and she is 11th in downhill. Of course, she also won two Crystal Globes: the little and the giant one.

«It's hard to win the globe for the 1st time, but now, it's much sweeter because you prove that the 1st time wasn't just a coincidence» said Janica after the race.

The little giant slalom Crystal Globe went to Anja Paerson who was just 1 point in advantage on Karen Putzer.

The Croatian Snow Queen will return to Croatia with her bags full of awards. She will operate her right knee on Wednesday.

«The celebration? I don't think so. I'm going home. I'm too tiered to take a trip like Eberharter. I can't wait to get home» concluded Janica.

Her father Ante also wasn't as thrilled. «We've done a lot in the last 4 years in the World Cup, but we are always tiered at the end of the season. It's hard to avoid it when you are struggling from October until March. It's hard to have the same inspiration and excitement like you have at the beginning f the season. The World Championship also takes your strength... I am proud, but I wonder how do we continue having the same shape and the same results» said Gips.

That's how it goes with the Kostelics. Every year the same. Not much celebration or euphoria, just keep going.
