Janica Kostelic crashed out in last World Cup slalom
Janica Kostelic suffered another spectacular crash today in the second run of her last slalom of the season after clocking the best intermediate time. American Kristina Koznick celebrated her sixth World Cup victory ahead of France's Laure Pequegnot and Austria's Nicole Hosp.

The double World Champion, 3rd in the first leg only 12/100 behind the leader, Nicole Hosp, was skiing very well in her second run when she lost her balance only a few meters before the finish line. Fortunately she didn't injure herself during this accident very comparable to her crash in Bormio's giant slalom.

“I was quite disappointed by my first tun” she said afterwards. “While I was skiing down the hill I was telling to myself that I was skiing really bad, but I couldn’t help it! I wanted to fix it in the second run, what I did in the first part before my fall. At least I skied well before I fell”.

"I was not so concentrated when I inspected the final part of the first run because I watched Ivica skiing down the first giant slalom run" Janica added.

“It was quite a surprise for me to fall because it doesn’t happen so often. But I’m a human being, and it’s normal that such an event happens. I was skiing to close, and the skis went inside”.

”It's my first DNF since the combined slalom in St Anton in February 2001. This can happen to all of us. I have been extremely consistent this season and in past years so I can't complain”.

”I reached a lot this winter and I'm more than satisfied. I still have many goals to aim for, including improving my results in the speed events and in giant slalom”.

” It was definitely a great season for me with my two gold medals at the World Championships, the globe in slalom and the overall World Cup”.

“I’ll be operated at my knee in Zagreb on Wednesday. Then I will go to the coast to get some rehab. It’s the end of the season, so there is no hurry. I’m pretty tired right now, especially after a day like this”.

In Sunday’s giant slalom, Janica will go for a solid run and keep a good lead in the overall standings. She was aiming to end the winter with more than five hundred points advance on her next rival, probably Italy’s Karen Putzer.
