Janica 13th in giant slalom
Despite feeling strong pain in her right knee, Janica Kostelic participated in the World Championship giant slalom race in St Moritz. She finished 13th, 3.07 seconds behind the winner Anja Paerson. Janica was 11th after the 1st run.

«Her knee was hurting and the snow was heavy, but she was actually very good. She will take some rest now between the two runs and she will be even better!» said her coach, Slaven Petrovic, very optimistically. But unfortunately, Janica hooked on a gate at the lower part of the course and almost fell, so she lost a lot of time and finished 13th. The ambulance came for her at the finish line and took her to the hospital, but fortunately nothing was fractured, only bruises on her right shoulder.

«At least I'll stop thinking about my knee... I was very fast, even faster than in downhill and if it wasn't for that hit I would have been at least 6th or 7th. But, I'm not sorry about performing» said Janica.

«She will certainly race in the Saturday's slalom. Maybe not, if she couldn't move her arm...» said the team director, Vedran Pavlek. «The course was really bed and the other coaches realized it too. Almost straight, without turns» said Pavlek. Despite this, the other two representatives, Nika Fleiss and Ana Jelusic were great. Nika started 49th and finished 22nd, while Ana started 41st and finished 28th.

Anja Paerson won her 2nd gold medal, the silver went to Italy's Denise Karbon and the bronze went to Canada's Allyson Forsyth. The next race will be a slalom on Saturday.
