Janica moved up in intermediate combined rankings
Despite her pain at her right knee, Janica Kostelic achieved a clean first slalom run which allowed her to move-up in the combined standings before the last run.

The 2002 combined Olympic Champion, the fastest in this first run, regained ten positions in the overall rankings. Only Austria's Nicole Hosp, the winner in the giant slalom in Soelden, remained ahead of her in the total time - and only by 17/100. Hosp was a surprising 3rd this morning in the downhill portion of this combined.

Switzerland's Marlies Oester, a winner in a slalom in Berchtesgaden last season, is 3rd with a delay of 1.57 on Hosp. She was followed by Germany’s Maria Riesch and the defending World Champion Martina Ertl, 5th at 2,26 seconds from Hosp.

Another Austrian, Marlies Schild was 6th while Christine Sponring, 5th in the downhill part, skied out in that first run. Sponring clinched silver in 2001 in St Anton where Janica didn't finish her slalom.

In the last run, the top-22 who survived the first slalom run will start in reverse order. With another strong run, Janica should be able to capture her first medal at World Championships - another great achievement for the skier from Zagreb who shows again great determination in difficult circumstances.
